When to Plant

• Cool Soil (About 2 weeks before your 'last frost' date in spring)

Unlike typical Iceland poppies, this refined strain produces stronger stems, more uniform flowers and a longer vase life, making it ideal for cutting gardens and floral design. Each bloom seems to flutter like a hummingbird in flight: light, delicate, and irresistibly charming. Best planted in fall and protected with a low tunnel or frost cloth in colder zones, Hummingbird Poppies thrive in full sun and well-drained soil, producing an abundance of flowers that dance above airy, blue-green foliage. Poppy Hummingbird is generally suitable for fall planting in USDA zones 6 and higher (unprotected), and Zones 5 and below with additional protection from a greenhouse, hoop house or frost cloth. This is strictly a guideline and we cannot guarantee winter survivability.
