Most Scabiosa are grown for their flowers, but the aptly-named Stellata Paper Moon is grown for the spherical seed pods that form after the flowers fade. Held on thin, wiry stems, the dried seed pods are prized by crafters and creators of everlasting floral arrangements.
Exactly What You’ll Receive
- Scabiosa Stellata Paper Moon plug plants
- 8 standard plug plants roughly 1" x 1" x 2"
- 1 recycled & reusable mini greenhouse
When to Plant
- Cool Soil (About 2 weeks before your 'last frost' date in spring)
- Fall Planted (Approximately 6 weeks before your first frost date in the fall)
Perched on long, slender stems, Paper Moon's clusters of flowers are spherical, flowering from the outer rings into the center. These Scabiosa do best when provided a cool start to their growing season and will flower after the temperatures begin to rise and the days lengthen. Grow in full sun and well-draining soil for best results.
Scabiosa Paper Moon is generally suitable for fall planting in USDA zones 7 and higher (unprotected), and Zones 6 and below with additional protection from a greenhouse, hoop house or frost cloth. In warmer zones it will actively grow and flower in the early spring, and in cooler zones it will start flowering late spring and early summer. This is strictly a guideline and we cannot guarantee winter survivability.
